These two recordings were made above the rustic village of Bejes in the Picos de Europa mountain range of Northern Spain on two seperate occasions. Life has it's own pace here. The fairly isolated village is surrounded by mountains with one street leading towards a main road. As must have been for hundreds of years animal husbandry, with goats, sheep, cattle and horses, is the main source of subsistance here. And what better way to find these free grazing animals? Hang them with bells! On both occasians I had climbed up a few hundred meters and it was striking how far these bells are audible. Probably amplified by the conical shape of the valley below.
