Usually I try to look for depth in my recordings. As I have a short attention span myself, I look for variation in the sound I record, be it different sources, different volumes, different tones. I never expected that I could find those things, albeit very subtle in soundscapes that basically are white noise.
As there is hardly any wildlife on the island of Lanzarote it is definitely ideal to record white noise if you are looking for it (you will hear a few chirps in the second recording). The first recording was made on the beach near Orzola, it was quite windy, so I had to lower the microphone creating a muffled crashing of waves; but not as windy as on the second recording, when I setup my microphones near a remote hermit-church on top of a hill called Ermita de las Nieves. The sound is created by the half a dozen palm trees that are planted around the church. I only EQ'ed them a little, so a few wind pops can be heared.
